Amit Shah is former ABVP leader and BJP Home Minister in the Gujarat government. He is generally regarded as Narendra Modi's right hand man, and was BJP poll manager for the state of Uttar Pradesh in the 2014 general election. He was an RSS volunteer and as poll manager for Uttar Pradesh he has picked RSS men as poll coordinators. He has also promised to build a grand Ram temple at Ayodhya very soon.

Shah was forced to resign as Home minister in 2010 after his arrest on charges of having ordered a series of encounter killings. In particular he faced charges of murder, and being the head of an extortion syndicate, although after the BJP came to power in 2014 various cases against Shah were dropped. Shah also directed the illegal surveillance of a young woman in late 2009, in the so-called "snoopgate scandal".
